Jakob Johnson '08
My 9 year old son Jakob is running for 4th grade class president. There were 15 kids that applied from his class and 5 were chosen to run. Jakob is one of 2 boys that are running. The children had to fill out a paper on why they would be a good class president, if they were chosen, they next had to go in front of the vice principal and speak and then prepare a 3 minute speech to be read to their classmates.
He was very excited that he was picked to run, this was what he wrote, IN HIS OWN WORDS, about himself on his original application....
1. Why do you think that you would make a good representative to the student council?
I am a hard worker. Also I can teach people my good manners. I enjoy being around people and try to make the good come out of everyone.
2. What suggestions would you make to improve the school?
I would want to make people learn more about recycling and not being so wasteful at school. Also at lunch more fresh fruits and vegetables. One last thing more recess equipment.
3. How do you show you are a good leader?
Last year in 3rd grade I was a K-kid representative (you go to special meetings and help vote for things for your class, it's a big deal to be picked!) I try to make sure everybody gets a turn in sports and everything is even. I am a leader at sports.
We had to make 2 posters and hang them in school. He wrote his speech last week and read it to the class, the elections were today and they will find out the winner on Wednesday!
Jakob does not think he is going to win. He said the other boy is more popular and that the girls are all voting for each other. I told him, I was proud no matter what. He used his own words and he tried something new...THAT'S A WIN WIN :):)
When he was writing his speech, he told me "mom some people are promising candy to get people to vote for them". I asked him what he thought about that, he said, "that was cheating". Jakob are you a cheater? "NO WAY!!" "If I win because I lied then what's the purpose of me helping the school?"
HMMMMMMM.............................................................................
I think some of our politicians could take a cue from my 9 year old!!
I'll keep you guys posted!
